Mrs Nonye Soludo, wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has asked women to use their August meetings to discuss ways to end increasing cases of drug abuse among youth in the state.
Apparently referring to the rising cases and abuse of crystal methamphetamine , locally called Mkpurummiri, by some youth in the state, Mrs Soludo linked insecurity and other vices in society to drug abuse.
She stated these while hosting women groups at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, reminding them that there was a huge task ahead over current social insecurity, which she insisted must be tackled squarely.
Describing mothers as the heart and conscience of society, Mrs Soludo tasked them to wake up and lead the fight against social vices among youths, pointing out that the increasing reports of drug abuse even among school children and domestic violence against children raised serious questions about mothers” roles for a better society.
She also asked her guests to use the annual all-women conference to find ways to invest in lucrative agriculture, and to also pay attention to their nutrition as well as their hygiene practices.
She reassured the women of her husband’s development model for the state which she described as a product of careful thought and strategic planning, and called for support in the quest for a better Anambra.
Our correspondent gathered that the governor’s wife had been engaged in a week-long interaction with women groups from different socio-political and religious backgrounds, including wives of traditional rulers, women presidents general.
