EDITORIAL: Anambra LG Chairmen: Six Months of Answering Mayors, What Next?

EDITORIAL

BY TONY OKAFOR

It has been six months since Anambra State’s local government chairmen took office, but regrettably, tangible progress is scarce.

The transition committee administration that preceded them seems to have set a standard they have not surpassed.

As elected officials, demonstrating leadership and vision is imperative.

Their duties are clear: creating jobs, improving infrastructure—particularly maintaining hinterland roads—and enacting policies that address local challenges.

Local government administration does not start and end with chairmen answering mayors or engaging in photo opportunities; it is about delivering results and improving citizens’ lives.

It is time for them to showcase achievements, including enacted byelaws, and engage citizens through regular town hall meetings and public reports.

We urge the chairmen to work diligently, prioritize projects that benefit the masses, and deliver on promises.

By doing so, they can drive meaningful development and prove themselves worthy of their positions.

The people of Anambra State expect nothing less, especially after nearly a decade-long wait for elected local government administrators.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration fulfilled its election promise by putting these local government leaders in place, and with that comes high expectations.

The chairmen’s performance will be judged by the progress they make, and they must be prepared to be held accountable.

Specific achievements, such as improved road conditions, job creation initiatives, and effective policy implementation, will be key indicators of their success.

Ultimately, the chairmen have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on their communities.

By rising to the challenge and delivering tangible results, they can prove themselves as effective leaders and true servants of the people.
The clock is ticking; it is time for action.
