Peter Obi Engages Abuja Residents Ahead of Council Polls
Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has embarked on an extensive tour of communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of efforts to connect with residents ahead of the February 21 local government area council elections.
Obi emphasized that leadership goes beyond policy-making, stressing the importance of listening to citizens and understanding their everyday challenges. “Leadership is not merely about implementing policies and issuing directives; it requires truly understanding the needs of the populace,” he said during his engagements.
Over the past week, Obi visited rural communities in Abaji, Kwali, and other parts of Abuja, meeting with traditional rulers and community leaders. He noted with concern the lack of basic services in the capital territory, including inadequate healthcare facilities and non-functional schools, despite government promises of free basic education and primary healthcare.
“These issues cannot be resolved instantly, but what is troubling is the persistent lack of prioritisation and commitment to addressing these fundamental needs,” Obi remarked. He stressed that access to education and healthcare remains crucial for national development and the well-being of citizens.
Obi called on residents to support Labour Party candidates in the upcoming polls, pledging that his party would prioritize the welfare of communities. “A new Nigeria is POssible,” he declared.
