The president general of Obosi Development Union (ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, has refuted the news report broadcast(ed) by Ebere Ekeokpara of BBC Igbo unit, which stated that the master-mind of Dr. Edwin Emegoakor’s abduction, Mr. Fabulous, was arrested at Obosi, Anambra state.
The story further stated that Mr. Fabulous’ house, which was alleged to be located at Obosi, was destroyed by irate Obosi youths.
However, Barr. Obi, who spoke to select journalists on May 12, 2026 in his office at Obosi, refuted the story, saying that Mr. Fabulous was arrested in his house, which is located at Abommili estate, Mgbachu, Nkpor, Anambra state.
“The story is not true. Mr. Fabulous, who master-minded the abduction of Dr. Emegoakor, the chief medical director of Crown Hospital, Nkpor, was arrested in his house at Abommili estate, Mgbachu Nkpor,” Obi said.
The town union leader advised news reporters to cross check their facts to avoid misrepresentation of facts that would embarrass innocent people and impugn the reputation of a town.
“Reporters should verify the stories they read online before adopting it as true.
“And a broadcast station as big as BBC should have done better to ask questions before adopting a story, especially as a whole community of people was mentioned,” Obi said.
On May 7, 2026, kidnappers stormed Crown Hospital, Nkpor, Anambra state and abducted its Chief Medical Director, Sir Edwin Emegoakor. The mastermind of the operation was Mr. Fabulous, who trades in motor spare parts at Mgbuka motor spare parts market, Obosi.
But Emegoakor, who was kept in Mr. Fabulous’ house, was rescued by security operatives, who raided the house. And Mr. Fabulous was arrested. His house was destroyed by the irate Nkpor youths, too.
