The Plateau State Youth Council has condemned the killing of 7 of its members in Awka, Anambra State.
The victims, 3 from Yamini village of Gwamlar and 4 from Gumshar, all from Kanam Local Government areas of Plateau State, were brutally murdered by unknown gunmen while going about their lawful activities in Anambra.
According to reports, the young men had traveled to the South Eastern part of the country in search of greener pastures to help lessen the burden of school fees.
They met their untimely death at a garage, where they were repairing their bikes in broad daylight.
The Plateau State Youth Council has described the act as “heinous and barbaric,” undermining the collective existence of the people and threatening national unity.
The council has called on the Plateau State Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sport Development, to collaborate with the Federal Government and the Government of Anambra State to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The council has also charged the government of Anambra State to rise up to its primary responsibility of protecting the lives and properties within the state, to curtail further occurrences and guarantee the right to freedom of movement to Nigerians within the state.
The Plateau State Youth Council has extended its condolences to the immediate families and communities of the deceased, the Kanam Chapter of the Youth Council, and the Plateau State people at large.
The council has prayed for the souls of the deceased to find rest in heaven.
The statement was signed by Bahal Nanpyal Mark, State Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Youth Council, on behalf of Panan Gongden Dapar, Chairman, Plateau State Youth Council.
It is worth recalling that the same week, a tragic incident occurred in Nibo, within the same Awka South Local Government Area, where gunmen brutally killed 16 youths during the community’s Onwa Asaa festival.
