Renowned Anambra lawyer, Barr Ndubuisi Onyeakpa has buried his mother, Mrs. Lois Innocent Onyeakpa, in Umunze, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
A priest with Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Ven Emma Ekejiuba who officiated the burial mass at St Augustine parish charged Nigerians on the virtues of humility and forthrightness, saying those were parts of what late Mrs. Onyeakpa was known for.
Ekejiuba described the late Mrs Onyeakpa as a humble and forthright woman, who was an encourager to others around her whe she lived.
The remains of Mrs Onyeakpa was interred yesterday in the compound of her husband, Late Mr Innocent Onyeakpa. She died at the age of 88.
She was survived by nine children, including Barr Ndubuisi Onyeakpa, who was her last child.
Describing her her late mother, Barr Onyeakpa said she was a loving, caring and hardworking woman who did everything to see him and other children through school, despite the early demise of his father. He said he owes his mother the fact that he is a lawyer today, adding that her funeral is rather a celebration of her life and times.
Onyeakpa said his family has made plans to ensure the immortalization of his mother through projects and empowerment, but will take time to think it through after the burial.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the First Vice President, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Barrister Sebastian Anyia who joined other legal practitioners to condole with the family, said Mrs Onyeakpa’s death is a painful loss as the place of a mother in an individual’s life is indispensable, praying for God’s consolation.
The Chairman of NBA, Aguata Branch, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwo, noted that the deceased was a mother to all and was known as a hospitable and kind person, advising the family to preserve her legacies.

Mama Lois Onyeakpa was born in 1936 to the family of late Mr Abel Okeke and late Mrs Bridget Okeke of Umuozonde Amaoba Village Eziagu in Orumba South Local GovernmentArea of Anambra State.
Mama was born in an Anglican Christian family as the first daughter and second child of her parents. She was cherished by her parents that made them fondly call her “Nwamma”.
Mama attended her early education at Ikpanwaojukwu Primary School and thereafter she got married in the early 1950’s to her late husband late Mr Innocent Emerenu Onyeakpa of Ndikpa Umucheke Ururo Village Umunze in Orumba South Local GovernmentArea of Anambra State . After her marriage, Mama proceeded to further training as required of married women during her own time.
Mama was blessed with nine (9) children with 5 surviving male children. Mama was a hardworking woman who engaged herself in trading i.e buying and selling of goods which took her to various parts of Eastern Nigeria like Enugu, Aba, Onitsha among others. She was among the pioneer market women that introduced importation and selling of sieved cassava at Nkwo Umunze as well as exportation of Okro from Orumba South to Enugu, Onitsha and beyond.
Mama was a devoted member of Anglican Church and-a member of women guild organization and mothers union of St. Augustine Anglican Church Umunze.
Mama and her husband late Mr. Innocent Onyeakpa assisted in propagation of Anglican faith in their area through baptism and introduction of members of their’ community into the Anglican faith. Her late husband was a number one man in the group C or Igwebuike group meeting of St. Augustine Anglican Church Umunze.
Mama in her social life, was a member of Women wing of Umucheke Umunze, and a strong member of Umuada Eziagu called “Umuokpu’.
Mama was a benevolent woman, a peace loving woman, kind hearted woman who never wanted to make trouble with anybody during her life time.
Mama trained all her children in education and Christian life despite the demise of her husband in the year 2000.She made effort to ensure that all her children got married. Mama will be greatly missed by her children, brothers, sisters, relatives, In-laws .especially her grand-children, who usually play and dance with her.
The mystery of life and death is only known and controlled by God. Mama had lived a fulfilled life and her demise has created a vacuum in the family. She had fought a good fight and finished her race and she created a positive impact in the sand of time. | pray that her gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.
