Rogers All Stars Founder, Chief Okonkwo, to be Buried May 9 in Umuokpu Awka

The music industry is in shock following the announcement of the passing of Chief Romanus Ementa Okonkwo, better known by his business name, “Rogers All Stars”.

The news was confirmed by the Board and members of the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), Nigeria’s biggest copyright collective management organization, led by COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji.

Chief Okonkwo was a devoted member of COSON and one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the Nigerian music industry.

He was a great supporter of COSON and played an active role in making the organization a respected institution.

His legacy includes the discovery and promotion of iconic artists such as Prince Nico Mbarga and his Rocafill Jazz Orchestra, who produced the massive hit song “Sweet Mother”.

COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji, paid tribute to Chief Okonkwo, describing him as a friend and a true master of the music industry.

“His vision and investment in Prince Nico Mbarga and his Rocafill Jazz Orchestra remains the decision of a true master,” Chief Okoroji said, adding “I am sure that there will never be another Chief Romanus Okonkwo, a gentleman to the core.”

Chief Okonkwo will be laid to rest in his hometown of Umuokpu Awka, Anambra State, on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Rogers All Stars Studio Onitsha was a prominent Nigerian record label and studio that produced many records annually, enabling them to produce millions of records.

The studio was home to notable artists such as Goddy Ezike & Black Brothers and Prince Nico Mbarga and Rocafil. Chief Okonkwo’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations of music lovers and entrepreneurs.
