The Youth wing of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, has charged the Youth in Nigeria to vote their conscience during the 2023 general elections.
The National President of the Youth wing, Beluchukwu Enwere, who visited Anambra State Friday, told the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence during the polls
He gave the advice under the aegis of Youth Wing of the Association (YOWICAN), while addressing the Youth leaders in Anambra Friday.
He thanked Most Rev. Daniel Okoh and sultan of Sokoto for the roles they had been playing in trying to enthrone peace in the country, especially, as 2023 general elections draw close.
He therefore, charged the youth to resists any attempt to be used for electoral violence, vote buying or selling on the 2023 general elections.
It was during the end of the year leadership retreat for Church Youth leaders in Anambra State, organised under the Theme, ‘I will do a new thing.’
According to Enwere, “for youth to sale their votes to any politician or political party at any election means to mortgage their future, futures of their children, relatives and generations unborn.
“Do not sale your birthright and conscience because the impact will be disasterious. We are preaching peace.
“Do not wait for your leaders, parents or INEC to educate you before you become an ambassador of peace. We need to start doing it now ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“I want you to be at peace with everyone. We don’t want to engage on violence. We want the best for the Nigerians, for our children, relatives and generations yet unborn.
“Do not use the pulpit for campaign. Allow the will of God to be done before, during and after elections.
“We won’t sale our conscience. We won’t sale our birthright. Don’t let them deceive you with tomatoes, wrappers, bags of rice and others so that we will be able to elevate our country.
” We will also resist electoral malpractice. Let us imbibe the spirit of peace, oneness and unity for the benefits of Nigeria,” Enwere said
He further charged youth who were yet to collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVC) to quickly visit designated areas for their collections and prepare to utilise them to elect credible leaders next year.
The Anambra State Chairman of YOMICAN, Comrade Nwabueze Kingsley Nwokoye, thanked the Youth leader for the roles being played for the unification and peace of the country.
“We are enjoying peace and harmony in this state. We have been talking about peace on our own. We want to assure you that Anambra is a peaceful state and will continue.
“We always preach peace. We are the conscience of people. We are praying for Anambra State and Nigeria to remain peaceful so that the election will come and go peacefully,” Nwabueze said
